Lori Johnson graduated from Chapman University, with her MFA in Film Production - Directing. The Relationship Theorem is her graduate thesis and Lucifer Loves Roast Beef is her advanced graduate project. Both projects are the culmination of three years of hard work and learning under the auspices of John Badham, David Ward, Larry Paull, Paul Seydor, Bill Dill, asc, and Gil Bettman.
Originally from Seattle, Washington, Lori received two BA's in Elementary Education and Theatre Arts from Central Washington University. She taught first grade and used her theatre background to engage the students in learning. She was a stage manager for Eastside Musical Theatre and Civic Light Opera in Seattle, where she learned the art of directing actors and crew at the same time. She also worked as an Executive Assistant at Group Health Cooperative.
Lori has spent hundreds of hours volunteering for film festivals and worthy non-profit agencies, where she has raised thousands of dollars for those in need.
With her love of theatre going strong, Lori decided to fulfill her other dream of working in film. She left her job, sold most of everything she owned, and moved to Orange, CA to begin school at Chapman University to obtain her MFA in film. Recently she has been working as a 1st Assistant Director for several of the projects filmed at Chapman University.
Lori's views on directing are to collaborate with other talented filmmakers to be able to work cohesively, creatively, and to produce the best film possible.
